Ready for School

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING

PVPSS ONLINE SUMMER SESSION

June 22 - July 17

BRIDGE TO SUCCESS

The goal of the 1st – 5th Grade Bridge to Success Program is to provide an engaging and unique summer school learning environment within our distance learning model. The program will provide whole group instruction as well as small group and one-on-one sessions to help strengthen the skills of the individual student as well as offer extra practice or challenge as needed. One hour blocks of reading, writing, and math will be taught via Zoom. The Bridge to Success program will be staffed by highly qualified Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District teachers who have risen to the challenge of teaching remotely.   Our goal is to strengthen the foundation of the essential standards that have been taught during the school year as well as build additional skills to help your child be prepared and confident for the upcoming school year.

School Plan

PVPSS Online

  • Please check your child's Edlio site with them daily.

  • Establish routines and expectations to help your child participate in learning.

  • While we have designed activities to be completed independently, please participate in your child's distance learning as much as possible.

  • Be mindful of your child's wellbeing, speak to them regularly about their work, their emotions, and share any relevant concerns with their teacher.  We are here to help.

  • Encourage children to participate in additional activities designed to promote exercise, creativity, and exploration.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT MY CHILD SHOULD BE DOING?

Prior to the start of each week, teaching teams will send a weekly email to students and families with a plan for the week ahead.

WHAT ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORMS WILL STUDENTS BE USING?

Teachers will use Edlio as the "hub" for their class assignments. Many teachers have already been using Edlio, so many students will already be familiar with this platform.

All PVPSS schools will use Zoom/Teams as our platform for video conferencing. Teachers will use a variety of additional online learning tools that work best for each grade level.

IS ZOOM SAFE FOR MY CHILD?

PVPSS understands this concern and has taken precautions as an organization to make this a safe as possible for students.  We have aligned our organization-wide settings to match Zoom's recommendations for educators.

WHAT IF MY CHILD NEEDS EXTRA HELP?

Each child will have a teacher who will check-in with them either individually or in a small group each week. Many teachers will hold office hours where students can join them through a Zoom meeting link to ask questions or to discuss assignments.  Teachers may also be reached through email to answer any questions.

WHAT IF PARENTS NEED HELP?

There are many resources which you will be able to find on your assigned teacher's Edlio page. You may also reach your child's teacher through their summer school email address.

ARE THERE BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES FOR DISTANCE LEARNING?

PVPSS has posted Responsible Use Guidelines for online/distance learning, which you will find on our websites Menu page under DL Responsible Use Guidelines
